Review by hotel critic
During my recent stay at The Westin Calgary, I found myself pleasantly surprised by the culinary delights offered at The Keg Steakhouse & Bar, which boasts a reputation as one of downtown Calgary's most cherished dining establishments. As a landscape photographer who revels in capturing the beauty of nature, I always appreciate a well-crafted meal that matches the scenery's splendor. There, I indulged in classic lounge fare that included mouthwatering appetizers and flatbread pizzas alongside signature cocktails. The ambiance was enhanced by a spacious patio and a cozy fireplace, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere that perfectly complemented the delicious food. The menu's standout items, like the succulent prime cuts of steak and fine wines, were a true testament to the restaurant's longstanding commitment to quality. While I didn't dine at the on-site Starbucks(R), I did appreciate the option for freshly brewed coffee and delectable baked goods in the main lobby, adding a touch of convenience to my mornings. The hotel's dedication to sustainability, such as providing surplus food to shelters, resonated with my own values of environmental consciousness. My breakfast experience at Essence Bistro was a delightful start to the day, energizing me with nutritious options before embarking on my photography adventures. Although the price may have been steeper compared to nearby alternatives, the quality and service at the hotel's dining venues made it a worthwhile investment for a memorable culinary journey. For fellow travelers seeking a fusion of comfort, cuisine, and conscientious practices, this hotel is a standout choice that caters to both the soul and the palate.
